Miyajima 20121026

Hi,

For some time I hadn't any time to update the blog, busy with work and such. But I will complete the blog, or at least my travel experience in Japan. Even if it is the last thing I do in life :).

Miyajima was next on the agenda, this is a place I wanted to visit for a long time. I reserved a full day to check the whole Island.

To reach Miyajima there are several ferries going there. during the ferry trip, I saw some fish boards. I don't know what they were used for exactly, but I bet fishing has to do something with it.

The trip on the ferry was ok, I kinda have sea sickness, but the ocean was serene so no problems there.

The Island is coming closer and closer.

There is the most important sightseeing of Miyajima.

As it is low tide, the Torii gate is reachable by foot.

After arriving at the Island, I first took a walk to the Torii gate as it was said that you could make a wish ;). During the walk there were a lot of small stores with souvenirs and food. Fish related food was abundant everywhere.

Even with low tide there was some water everywhere but it was all good

If you would put a coin into the Torii gate and make a wish, the wish would come truth as long as the coin stayed in the Torii gate, so that is what i did.

The Itsukushima shrine view from the torii gate, it is build over water if it is high tide :).

The little town around the shrine, not a lot of people wandering around, only me. Again i like the typical scenery and architect.

There are several walking trails so first i went to the Tahoto shrine, from there I saw the highest pagoda on the Island.

The Tahoto shrine has several nice view spots.

After wards I went down and walked to the Senjokaku Hall, build by Hideyoshi, but never completed. Again a striking architecture design.

The 5-storied pagoda was near the hall.

On the Island there are several marriages in the traditional clothing. Today was a good day as i saw 3 to 4 couples being very happy :).

Then there was the most important shrine of the Island, the Itsukushima shrine, which is a holy shinto related shrine.

When I was there several praying session were going on, but out of respect I didn't picture them. Because I understood that people with problems came to ask a prayer for good health or happiness.

Several statues on the shrine's site. Looks dangerous :)

The pagoda view from the shrine.

The water was coming higher and higher, so the torii gate was like floating on the water.

And with the sun set, one gets very nice views of the torii gate, until now one of the best views yet.

After Miyajima I took the train to Fukuoka, because tomorrow I plan to go to Kumamoto and from there to the region around the Aso mountain. The best trains in the world, the shinkansen :).

And I found my favorite drink, vitamin water, but in a 1 liter package, I bought several bottles ;).

Till next time, I hope I find some time to update the trip more frequently :)

Cheers,
