Takayama 20121023

Hi,

After the Fuji experience yesterday, today I hoped for a relaxing day. After checking out of the hotel in Nagoya, we took the train to Takayama as we wanted to sleep a night in Shirakawa-go in these old traditional Gassho-zukuri farmhouses. But after some phone calls we couldnt find any place to stay the night so we just went to Takayama and see from there how to continue.

After a two hours we arrived by train in Takayama, as it was already 15.00 hours we decided to directly go to Hida Folk Village, which is a small village like the old days. It is a kind of a museum in the open air. It was a rainy day, so not a lot of people where there. The entrance of the village.

The typical farmhouses found all over the village. People used to live here and the houses where build quite good.

Autumn has started so the nice colors are coming :).

This building was a bit different, it was build later in the period and was less older than the other farm houses.

Inside each building there was a fire place which they put on every day as the smoke was good for the building.

The lumber storage they used to use in that period.

One of the bigger farm houses, it can house several families :).

Can imagine with these shoes your feet will warm :).

One building had a man who made hand-made masks, it took a full day to make one mask.

Ouside the village there was a special temple which you couldn't visit, i don't know what the temple is for, but it looked kinda special.

Some pictures of Takayama near the Hida folk village, alwasy like the typical japanese building style. Could walk for hours just watching the streets :).

After we left Takayama to Nagoya and from there the shinkansen to Osaka.

One of my favorite snacks, octopus :). Very jummy but a lot of people in the Netherlands think i am crazy eating it :).

Tomorrow Nara and Osaka are on the program :)..

cheers,
